Opera browser, although based on the same engine as Chrome, still offers many original features and technologies. For example, Opera was the first browser with a built-in crypto wallet.
The Norwegian company is now letting its US and Scandinavia users to easily purchase cryptocurrencies with a debit card or Apple Pay. The function is available in the browser for Windows, iOS, and Android.
This decision came after a successful partnership with Wyre, a cryptocurrency transmitter. It’s connected with the plans of the Norwegian browser platform to become a leader in the developing ecosystem of Web 3.0. Crypto purchases can increase company credentials, as it applies to users working with decentralized applications (dApps).
“Allowing our users to easily load cryptocurrency into their browser’s digital wallet is very powerful, as it connects the Web to a global internet-native payment network.”
Charles Hamel, Head of Crypto at Opera browsers
Now, Opera users in the US and Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, and Denmark) will be able to buy BTC or ETH for up to $250 directly from the platform’s wallet. Customers, however, will have to struggle with a 30 percent commission and an additional 2.9% to cover transaction costs. This limit means that the new feature is intended for retail purchases, and not for large players.
So far, only Bitcoin or Ethereum can be bought in this way. Whether this list will be expanded further is not yet clear, but it is known for sure that soon the new function will become available in other countries.
