Cookie Stuffing is an affiliate marketing technique whereby a user visiting a website receives third-party cookies that are not associated with the user. It is almost impossible for the client to learn about the substitution. Later, if the user visits the site they are looking for again and makes a transaction, for example, purchase in an online store, the filler is paid a pre-agreed commission. The problem is that the filler did not take any action to attract potential buyers to the site and earns exclusively in a fraudulent way.
Fake cookies can reach users’ gadgets when they click on pop-ups, toolbars, or images. This is a huge problem for e-commerce, as the phenomenon of cookie stuffing allows large amounts of advertisers to be defrauded with impunity. In addition, it is almost impossible to catch such scammers, since it is not always possible to suspect them of theft. There are isolated cases when especially impudent marketers were able to figure out and bring them to a court decision. It is important to remember that fraud is illegal and punishable at the judicial level.
