PageRank (PR) is a reference ranking algorithm based on calculating the weight of a page by estimating the importance of the documents referring to it and is usually expressed by a number. Basically, that’s one of the indicators of the authority of the site for the search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo, etc.
The PR indicator is affected by the link mass from other sites: the higher the PR of the linked sites, the more likely it is that your site will soon increase these metrics and get higher in the SERP.
- External links to the site and their quality
- Original, relevant and up-to-date content
- Errors identified by Google Webmaster, including site’s speed, mobile-friendliness, etc.
- Quality of meta tags structure and other developing information of the site
- The site’s availability in online directories and archives
- The absence of hidden links or texts that are not relevant to your web page, hidden by CSS or otherwise.
When calculating the PageRank of a web page, search engine analyses the following three factors:
- Number and quality of incoming links;
- The number of outbound links on each such page;
- PageRank of each page.
Basically, the PageRank of a page is a critical metric that allows search engines to estimate the real value and authority, understand the weak points and important insights about that page.
