Pop up is an easy-to-see small window that appears as soon as you open the site’s webpage, and refers to basic elements of a site’s interface. It’s commonly used in marketing, for advertising and leads generating purposes.
As a rule, it suddenly “pops up” without a user request, or appears on click. There are 2 main types of pop ups used nowadays:
- Hello-board pop up. This one appears anywhere on the page, overlaps part of the screen and can be easily closed. It’s usually displayed as a narrow band at the top or bottom of the site and doesn’t interrupt the user experience by blocking the site’s functionalities (for instance, chat windows or subscription notifications, etc.)
- Page-stop pop up. This type floats to the center of the screen or can even almost cover the entire page. So, the visitor cannot skip it until he performs the targeted action or forcibly closes the window.
A page-stop pop up is not that popular for use among marketers, as they can rather annoy visitors than call them to a specific action. Instead, a hello-board pop up is less obsessive and can simply be ignored on demand.
Pop up notifications are used for the following purposes:
- attract new subscribers
- report the latest news
- provide any kind of support
- show ads
- receive applications from clients
