A query stands for a certain question or phrase used for getting and validating the information. In the digital technology industry, a query (also known as a search query) is the word combination entered into a search engine box to get the list of information resources.
The main goal of any query is to provide quick access to the most relevant information the user is looking for.
Each query contains a list of keywords, search trends, and volumes, that provide a better understanding of an average user’s needs. The information gained from the queries can assist in analyzing the search trends and building an effective marketing strategy according to the popular trends noticed.
There are 3 basic types of query:
- Navigational query – targeted at finding a specific website the user is looking for. For instance, you’re typing in “amazon” or “Facebook” to find the direct link on the platform and enter it. Such queries have extremely clear intent: to find the exact site on the Internet.
- Informational query – aimed to gain the information from search engine results, often without any purchase intention. For instance, you want to know how to use a dog harness or what is the best food for a pitbull. The main idea of these queries is to provide relevant information and recommend the site as trustworthy.
- Transactional query – used for providing the information regarding a specific product and representing the business end of the conversion funnel.
