A search engine result page (SERP) is a page showing a list of results that search engines return as a response to a search query from a user. Each list contains the linked page, the linked web page title, and a short description of the webpage content. In a few cases, it may also include a link to interesting points on the webpage.
The search engine result page (SERP) often shows three types of result pages:
- Pages that have been indexed and crawled by the search engine bot
- Pages that were added manually to the search engine’s directory.
- Pages that appear due to paid inclusion.
Pages that rank the highest on a SERP usually contain the most relevant information to the users’ search query. As you go down the page, the relevance of the links and web pages that appear reduces.
The number of items on a SERP depends on the number of pages containing or related to the word or phrase that the user searched for. In some cases, search engines may show a few items, and in other cases, they may show millions of things depending on the popularity of the search phrase.
