Taxonomy is all about categorizing and organizing a website to maximize content search capabilities and help users find the information they need. Users do not want to look for answers to their questions on the site. They want answers to be found quickly and easily.
Taxonomy can determine user experience and influence search engine rankings. It is also the structure that a website uses to easily organize content. This is to help users move around the website and understand its purpose. Visually, this most often looks like categories or different sections on a website or blog.
This concept is also closely related to the structure of URLs. This means that the main domain of the site remains the same for every URL, but many headers and subdirectories change URLs as the content of the pages becomes more specific.
If you take for example that your site’s URL is www.samplewebsite.com, then your taxonomy will include various categories that are relevant to your site’s content. If your site has a Contact or Announcements section, then the URLs will be slightly modified to reflect each page. It will look like this – www.samplewebsite.com/contact.
